Talk about the gift that keeps on giving…
The anti Hs2 mob are working themselves up into a right royal tizzy about flooding East of Leeds on the route that Hs2 will take into the city. Their common refrain is that this flooding proves the route is untenable. After all, who knew a flood plain would flood? Well, everybody but the anti Hs2 mob it seems. Here’s a selection of their tweets.

The last tweet with the drone view is the most interesting – and the most telling. What the anti Hs2 mob don’t say is that Hs2 will be passing through the flooded area on a 2335m long viaduct which will be between 11 and 4 metres above ground level. Plus, see that narrow (unflooded) strip of land to the right of Woodlesford lock? That’s where the new viaduct will go – off into the distance.
Once again, the anti Hs2 campaign have managed to shoot themselves in the foot – this time with both barrels.
Still, don’t take my word for it. Here’s the drawings from Hs2 Ltd!

If you want to examine the actual map in greater detail (which includes elevations etc) click on this link.
Unsurprisingly, the anti Hs2 mob refuse to answer a simple question. How would such a viaduct be “submerged under floods”?
How will cutting 6 minutes off a trip from London at a cost of billions (and let’s face it, every one of these projects ends up over-cost) help in any single way?
Also, ever consider that building a massive, immensely heavy structure on a flood plain might just be a really fucking stupid idea?
Kindly go fornicate yourself with 2015’s dick…
I’ve allowed this comment purely for the reason that its shows up the intellectual bankruptcy (and abusive nature) of those opposing HS2..I hope leonneath@yahoo.co.uk IP: 86.10.218.231 is proud of himself
Pumping thousands of tons of concrete in to the aquifer will increase flood risk to local communities. You are clearly a thoughtless, arogant bufoon.
Your evidence that anyone is pumping “thousands of tons of concrete” into an aquifer is what exactly? You have none because there is none. This is a classic example of ignorant scaremongering by those opposed to Hs2 and a good illustration of why their campaign has failed.
So the viaduct down the Aire Valley will be self supporting just balanced on the ground or perhaps HS2 magic. I take it you are a civil\ structural engineer aswell as a photographer
I asked for your evidence that “thousands” of tons of concrete will be poured into an aquifer. Needless to say – you produced none. Instead (like most Hs2 antis) you resorted to insults. Thank you for providing yet more evidence why people don’t take you scaremongering and rather hateful campaign at all seriously.
You ask for proof , hs2 plan is to build a viaduct between the river aire and aire and Calder only a few metres apart on a flood plain . where do tou think the concrete will go. Oh and point out the insult. A bit rich from the man who resorts to abuse everytime hes proved wrong
Where is the evidence that backs up you unsubstantiated claim that “thousands” of tons of concrete will be poured into an “aquifer”? If you can’t produce it, then there’s only one logical conclusion: You’ve made it up – which is a typical modus operandi for those opposed to hs2 & why your campaign is discredited and ineffective.
